Description

This rare and superb MG VA Tickford has just emerged from a one year total restoration. Prior to this the car has been in the same family ownership for decades, but it was in need of total restoration. The newly rebuilt car is now a superb example of the rare Tickford bodied MG VA. The restoration has been very thorough and every aspect of the car has either been refurbished or replaced. The list of works is extensive and the main aspects of the restoration are listed below:

All body panels have been blasted, primed and painted in the original blue.

The engine has been totally rebuilt and this includes a re-bore, new pistons, new valves and guides, new big ends and main bearings which have been white metaled.

The braking system has been overhauled with all new seals.

A new wiring loom has been fitted

All of the chrome has been re-plated apart from the fog lamp which remains in good condition.

The radiator has been re-cored

The petrol tank has been blasted inside and out and re-painted.

The road wheels have been blasted and painted.

The gearbox has been checked and a new front seal fitted and a new clutch drive plate has been fitted.

The starter motor has been overhauled

A dynamator has been fitted which is effectively an alternator dressed up as a period dynamo.

New coil, fuel pump, spark plugs, leads and caps have been fitted.

The distributor has been overhauled by the Distributor Doctor which is the best place to go to for any such work.

A brand new exhaust system has been fitted.

New front side lamps have been fitted along with flashing indicators.

The wooden dash panel has been re-made.

Various new instrument drive cables and control cables have been fitted.

A new hood has been fitted - this alone cost just under £2,000.

All of the interior trim has been refurbished using beige leather with new blue carpets.

New tyres have been fitted.

The list goes on but as you will see this is a very comprehensive restoration and the pictures demonstrate what a lovely car this is. It starts on the button and runs through the gears without issue. It is a car that has real presence on the road and generates lots of interest wherever you take it.

The history file includes the original buff log book which confirms that the car still sports its original registration number. The history file includes lots of invoices relating to the rebuild.

These cars rarely come to market and even rare are the ones that have been the subject of such a comprehensive rebuild given the costs involved. This one is now ready for its next custodian and it will give many years of motoring pleasure ahead.
