Description

This superb Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Coupe is an original home market right hand drive car that has clearly led a cosseted life as demonstrated by an extensive history file detailing work that has been done over the years to keep it in largely original condition but superb mechanical order. The car has been with its last custodian for over 10 years and during this time it has had any work needed done which has been thoroughly documented with extensive notes on all parts and labour that have been needed. Prior to this the history file contains lots of invoices for work done and even has a second hand car sales invoice dated 1976 when the car was sold from a dealer in Streatham high road.

This is a matching numbers car which has a very rare factory option of power steering fitted which was only done to the last of the 4.2 cars coming off the production line. The original power steering has been replaced with a more robust modern electric unit, but all of the parts from the original unit have been retained should the next custodian wish to return the car to its factory spec. The car also has a factory fitted webasto sunroof which gives the perfect solution for hopefully the summer ahead.

The body is in excellent condition with just minor paintwork blemishes. The underside is also in excellent condition. Mechanically the car has had money spent whenever it has needed it and a good example is in 2018 when the engine was removed from the car to address any oil leaks and fit new seals and gaskets where needed. The car is now dry underneath with no leaks. At the same time other work was carried out such as resurfacing the flywheel and fitting new ring gear and refurbishing the clutch assembly. The total cost for all of this work was just under £10,000. Regular servicing has been undertaken which is all documented on file. There is a thick folder detailing the work carried out over the years.

The car starts on the button and sounds great. it moves through the gears without issue and runs cleanly. It is nicely set up and drives very well indeed which reflects the care it has received in recent years.

The interior is in good condition with the driver's seat showing some wear but there are no rips or tears. The black leather and white coachwork with chrome wire wheels really set the car off perfectly.

The history file contains all of the invoices we have mentioned above along with a good MOT history back to the late 1980s along with a operating, maintenance and service book and a workshop manual.
