Description

This Spitfire is something of a rarity having had one owner since new, only covering 35,500 miles in that time. The car even comes with its original sale invoice. The car was bought from Kennings Ltd on the 1st March 1978 for the princely sum of £2336.48. The condition of the car reflects its low mileage with fantastic as-new panel fit, unlike many restored cars. The paintwork on the car is very good indeed apart from the odd minor touch up paint which has been used throughout the years. The interior is superb and the fabric on the seats is first class, again reflecting the fact that this is a low mileage car. The floor pans as you would expect are original and show no signs of having been repaired which is clear from the accompanying photograph. During the last fifteen years the car has done less than 1,000 miles. The car is accompanied by its original service book which is stamped by Kennings up to 1984 when the car had done 14,129 miles. By 2000 the mileage had increased to 34,491 when the car was placed into storage and was brought back onto the road in 2013.

The car runs exceptionally well for a Spitfire and the engine is responsive and runs clean. Recent work that has been carried out includes the fitment of a reconditioned unleaded head, new radiator, new rear wheel brake cylinders, new clutch master cylinder and a new water pump. It has also recently benefitted from a new exhaust, new fan coupling and new seat foams as well as new rubber hoses, new fuel pipes and new trackrod ends. This car has clearly been very well cared for and the nicely detailed engine bay really shows this. The original Triumph Spitfire 1500 handbook also comes with the car. The hood on the car is in very good condition and the chrome work is also excellent. This is certainly the best 1500 car that we have seen and driven by a considerable margin.

Low mileage cars are very hard to come by and this car provides a fantastic opportunity to acquire a Spitfire that is unmolested and really reflects what these cars were like when they came off the production line.
