Description

Finding low mileage MK2 Jaguars brings to mind the phrase 'as rare as hen's teeth', but this MK2 is exactly that having completed just 36,363 miles. We can warrant it using a mixture of MOT certificates and the fact that the current owner who has been the car's custodian since 1978 knows all of the previous owners who are either family members or family friends. A family tree showing the ownership path is available in the file. The car was first bought new by a Doris Burrows who lived in Westcliff-On-Sea and she used the car very sparingly with her chauffeur tasked with taking it out each month to give it some regular use! The current custodian inherited the car from his father in 1978 and the car has had limited use since then although it has always been well maintained and kept fit for road use.

The car is largely very original indeed with an interior that is showing its age, but still in remarkably good condition as the pictures will demonstrate. It brought a smile to our faces when we discovered a 1966 Sunday Express newspaper under the footwell carpet which really demonstrates the little use this unmolested car has had. The top of the dashboard is showing sun damage which can easily be restored. The seats are in excellent order and we think could be improved very easily with some specialist cleaning and preservation work. This car is fitted with a Webasto sunroof which is perfect for summer motoring.

Bodily the car is in very good shape. The body and paint is showing its age in places, but this adds to the character of a low mileage car. The body is very straight and most importantly the door shuts are original and superb, They are superior to many restored cars we have seen. The chrome has also survived well and the bumpers still look fresh whilst the door handles and light surrounds have some pitting. Underneath, the car is in good order with all jacking points in place and it looks very clean.

Mechanically the car is excellent and the engine ticks over quietly with good oil pressure which is not unexpected for such a low mileage car. The manual gearbox works as it should and importantly the car is fitted with the overdrive option. More recent work includes a complete renewal of the brakes front and rear.

The history file contains various documents issued when the car was new including the buff logbook, along with various MOT certificates dating back to the 1970s. The current V5 along with an old style log book are also present together with the manufacturer's warranty card, the maintenance and service handbook, and a full workshop manual along with the Jaguar service lists. There are miscellaneous invoices relating to various works carried out over many years along with service history.

Overall this is simply a very original car that exhibits its age, but is exceptionally sound condition and ready to be used.
