Description

There is generally no shortage of Jaguar MK2 cars available at any one time, but very good quality examples are still hard to come by and this is one such example which ticks all of the boxes and also has something very unique for a MK2 which is a factory fitted sunroof which Jaguar Heritage have confirmed was issued to just 8 cars!

This MK2 3.8 is fitted with a manual gearbox with overdrive. It remains in its original colour scheme of carmen red with beige leather. It was fitted with a number of factory extra options including wire wheels, reclining front seats, overdrive and the super rare steel sliding sun roof. Most people at the time had an after market webasto roof fitted, which impacts on the lines of the car in our view. The factory fitted sunroof preserves the lines and it is also interesting to know that in order to supply the sliding steel sunroof it required Jaguar to supply a different bodyshell with supporting structure to accomodate the sunroof sliding panels, making this a very rare car indeed!

Another major upgrade which has been fitted is power steering which makes the driving experience immeasurably better given how heavy they are on the steering without it.

This is a matching numbers car as confirmed by the heritage certificate held on file. The original green log book is also with the car as is a written summary of the car's history which shows it to have just 5 keepers in total.

A major restoration was undertaken by a previous custodian when he bought the car in 1989. This involved a full engine and body restoration when the car had completed approximately 89,000 miles. The engine restoration is documented by invoices held on file whilst the body restoration is documented by a written summary along with a photographic record of everything that was done at the time. The restoration work also included the interior and especially the woodwork which was professionally restored and still looks superb today. The full restoration took approximately 5 years to complete and was clearly done to a high standard.

Fast forward to 2014 when the last custodian bought the car and at this time the interior was then restored with new leather for all of the seats and also the centre console. Since then it has been subjected to regular servicing and maintenance which has included an upgrade to an alternator, radiator re-core, new water pump, four new stainless steel 72 spoke wheels and a lot of other general maintenance to keep the car in first class condition. This is all documented by a plethora of invoices on file.

Looking around the car today and it still presents superbly despite being 30 years on from its major restoration. The car starts on the button and drives as it should with a working overdrive. It has recently had a new MOT applied which is advisory free.

The underside of the car is in excellent condition as the photographs will show with all four jacking points present and correct. The only noticeable negative with the body work is that the paint has lifted in front of the small lights that sit on top of the front wings.

If you are looking for a Jaguar MK2, this one should be on your list to view. It not only has the sought after 3.8 manual with overdrive, but also comes with the factory sunroof which is rare as hens teeth, plus you get the added benefit of power steering and a full history file summarising what has happened to the car along with a heritage certificate and the green log book.
